Statement of Purpose

We are an interfaith coalition that works to end extreme poverty and achieve the UN millennium Development Goals through legislative advocacy, education, and outreach. In particular, we are ommitted to increasing U.S. official development assistance (ODA) to 0.7 percent of national income as promised by the U.S. and UN member countries at the 2002 Monterrey Consensus.

Goals

• To build community among ourselves sufficiently so that we can organize local congressional office visits when global poverty legislation is pending.
• To work together to put on a third Point 7 Now! Conference in 2010.
• To recruit participants who are diverse in ethnicity, religion, and age.
• To find legislation we can all agree to support or oppose concerning global poverty.
• To create a model for advocacy which we can share with other regions.
